David Fear Rolling Stone To say that Torres digs into the role of Eunice Paiva, who spent a good deal of her life trying to demand accountability for her husband’s disappearance, would be an understatement. Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Lindsey Bahr Associated Press Mothers and wives often get the short shrift in movies like this, about Big Important Topics decided on by men, but Torres instills Eunice with a deep emotional and practical intelligence that’s beautifully feminine. Rated: 3/4 Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Thelma Adams AARP Movies for Grownups I’m Still Here is as affecting and inspiring as any movie this year, domestic or foreign. Rated: 5/5 Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Alan French Sunshine State Cineplex Sallas leaves us with big questions and the fallout of these horrors on the lives of those who lost their father or partner. Jan 19, 2025 Full Review Neely Swanson Beverly Hills Courier This is a must-see movie if only from the standpoint that we should never forget what happened and try to make sure it doesn’t happen again, there or anywhere. Jan 18, 2025 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue A fully committed portrayal by Fernanda Torres galvanizes this Brazilian biopic that’s provocative as a sociopolitical thriller and poignant as an intimate domestic drama. Kevin I disliked that the movie ended! It was perfect I wanted to see more of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review First L The plot and the acting was amazing!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Alecio D This movie is very well-made, with sharp acting. It conveys the emotional experience of living under military dictatorship in Brazil. It’s highly appropriate for our current times, serving as a reminder of the horrors of military dictatorship for future generations. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Peter M Walter salles is a national treasure. Remarkable film Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review sandra Superb acting great story telling timely political topics Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Demond W The majority of this heartfelt film about a Brazilian family coping with the abrupt loss of their father during a military dictatorship in the early 70's feels incredibly timely some 50 years later. I had no idea that this was a true account until the credits rolled. I really love the cinematography of this film and how thoughtfully the story takes its time to fully establish this family so that we get a strong sense of who they are and their dynamics with each other before government sanctioned terror comes knocking at their door and permanently turns their world upside down. The central focus and standout performance is that of Fernanda Torres as a protective mother turned resistance activist. She carries us on a decades long journey in search of answers with such conviction, perseverance and pathos. My only gripe with this film is that it has a perfect ending and then keeps going into the final years of Torres' character's life when the role is taken over by Torres' mother in what is essentially a cameo. It's only the last 5 minutes or so, but I felt it was unnecessary and undercut a much stronger conclusion with Torres character that occurs just before this scene takes place.
