Inkoo Kang The New Yorker Black Doves is like a box of bonbons gifted around the holidays: pleasing, elegant, forgotten as soon as it’s consumed. Like so many spy tales, the show is driven by intricate plotting rather than by meaningful character development. Dec 31, 2024 Full Review Margaret Lyons New York Times Knightley and Whishaw are terrific here, playing all the layers of their characters’ lies and all the layers of their pains and joys. Dec 23, 2024 Full Review Carol Midgley Times (UK) Joe Barton’s Black Doves (Netflix) is ultimately quite heartwarming despite the blood and gore. Rated: 4/5 Dec 17, 2024 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine Beyond being a spy story, the series explores the emotional and moral complexities that those who work undercover face, offering a reflective look at the personal consequences of covert missions. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Jan 13, 2025 Full Review Lyra Hale Fangirlish Black Doves season 1 proves that Keira Knightley is still that girl. Rated: A Jan 5, 2025 Full Review James Delingpole The Spectator Barton at half-cock is still superior to most writers at the top of their game because of his gift for creating memorable, quirky characters with decent lines, and for playing with the genre conventions so that all the usual clichés feel new-minted. Joe S This site has really gone downhill. Why do they even bother with critic reviews. Tip if you use this site, avoid the critic reviews. Also I've noticed that if you see a large discrepancy between high critic scores and low audience scores, it's usually because of work garage in the content. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Rob T Gripping, fast moving thriller. Very densely packed, blink and you'll miss something. Could have easily had 2 more episodes to explain things a little more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review dave b Too many “tough” characters who let their emotions get them in trouble. The last 20 minutes of the show was treacle. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review paul b I liked this one and wanting to keep watching not entirely sure why , probably just good actors and good script , even thought i dislike the premis of these fairly nice people who are assassins for a living it a tedious done to death idea. Maybe we are due a series about an assassin who’s just a soulless c***. Oh actually there was a film …. Kill list and tgat was really depressing Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Andrea F Nice cast but story poorly written, cheap and frankly quite illogical. These doves organization seems the team of repair shop at best. Someone gets recruited to become a spy after few words exchanged at a parking and the day after is already operative. Fantastic. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Kevin T This is absolute dribble. I have worked with the government(s) of the UK and USA for 40 years, you would not be having any type of classified discussion in a stairwell, you would not be having an affair so out in the open (and expose yourself to blackmail), you definitely would not be having conversations on unsecure phones. Whom ever wrote this tripe has no idea of even the very, very basic concepts of spy craft. London has the most video surveillance of any city on the planet so you would not show up at a murder scene without gloves, and undisguised, unless you are a complete amateur. Oh and as an assassin worthy of making the shot, you would not leave a casing behind with your fingerprints. This was written by an idiot.
