What to Know

Critics Consensus

(Goofy concept + likable ensemble) ÷ sludgy pacing = an attractive but mediocre globetrotting series.

Dan Einav Financial Times The overly earnest script works against what is at its core a mindless globe-hopping conspiracy yarn. Rated: 2/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Geordie Gray The Australian This show is patently absurd, but it’s well-acted, snappily paced fun. Jan 31, 2025 Full Review Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) The first episode is sufficiently zippy to pull you in, but as a bingewatch it soon sags under the weight of a nonsensical plot and a feeling that everything you are seeing has been thrown in to satisfy the algorithm. Rated: 2/5 Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Jack King GQ Magazine [UK] The broader ensemble is solid and though the story begins as a slog, like many slow-burn conspiracy thrillers, it seems to have picked up a bit of welcome pace by the end of episode two. Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Abhishek Srivastava The Times of India While 'Prime Target' may stretch the boundaries of plausibility as it nears its conclusion, it remains an engaging and enjoyable series with a blend of suspense and action. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 31, 2025 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Prime Target is an unusual beast, being a thriller with some intriguing (not to say mind-bending) intellectual preoccupations, but it’s a difficult feat to pull off... But I still want to know how it ends. Rated: 3/5 Jan 28, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Mary T Got recommended this as love Leo Woodall. Binged all 5 episodes but DONT WANT TO HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT 3!! So might wait till last one is up cos I need to know what happens. It’s just got properly exciting, love the stuff in Baghdad Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Paul M Can Apple please make more series like this. Like, stuff that’s entertaining and bit thought-provoking and not pretentious. No.2 in the apple chart right now so people are watching .. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Lev R It's too bad to see some good actors like Leo Woodall from White Lotus and Sidse Knudsen from Borgen and Westworld wasted on this tripe. It fails almost from the first episode for several reasons. 1) it doesn't make clear how exactly a prime number "finder" will become a terrible weapon. It just states that without a clear explanation for those of us who aren't mathematicians. 2) The show does not make clear what exactly the discovered House of Wisdom in Iraq actually means for archeologists or anyone else. Once again, we're told it's "important." 3) The pacing is abominably slow and overall things don't add up (pun intended). Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Daniel S It’s hard for me not to get excited about a conceptual storyline like the one they are aiming for, but they are missing the target by a mile. There are only two semi-well-known actors, neither of whom is pulling their weight, and the direction provided by the director and creator appears to be completely absent. Neither is benefiting or being helped by good writing. Between the NSA having business cards, having their logo emblazoned on everything in their surroundings, their email addresses using a .com domain, and their agents acting like whining children when someone they are actively watching gets killed, the agency they are trying to esteem looks like a group of buffoons. My favorite example is when one agent just finished telling another that one of their counterparts was JUST ASSASSINATED, and then proceeded to go answer the doorbell. There are clearly misconceptions about how the NSA operates and communicates. Hiring a consultant to ensure these inaccuracies are caught would make a tremendous difference. The scenes where a wannabe Will Hunting scribbles numerical gibberish are somehow underplayed and overplayed at the same time. I don’t claim to be a mathematician who would understand something as complex as what he’s pretending to work on, but I can’t get past the lack of effort in conveying an appreciation for the complexity of his work. The show’s concept has the potential by itself to be a fantastic thriller, and I want so badly to like and appreciate it as I do great films like Good Will Hunting, A Beautiful Mind, or Oppenheimer, but no one involved is creating that experience for their viewers. I will keep watching in hopes that the creators will find a way to redeem the show, but unfortunately, for now, my expectations are no higher than expecting to witness a figurative plane crash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Iyhel M Wow. I thought we were done with this Da Vinci sh** since 2005. Last time I saw that many clichés mixed with such bad acting was back in the 80s. Delightful, in a perverse kind of way. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Finn B prime target is such a fun ride! i wanna see where it goes, is Ed gonna crack the prime number formula... i didnt know prime numbers are actually used for computer systems, been reading about it... so the show isn't as silly as some have made out after all lol. one of apple's better series i'd say Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
