What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Squid Game's return can't help but lose the element of surprise, some absolutely diabolical challenges and a knotty moral outlook keep this sophomore season thrilling.

Dan Einav Financial Times Hwang keeps these disparate moods finely balanced throughout, knowing when to revel in lurid thrills and when to reveal more of the ideas underpinning it all. Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Lili Loofbourow Washington Post Instead of building, Jun-ho’s plot languishes. Gi-hun’s arc gets blurry. Worst of all, the antagonist remains a cipher. Jan 9, 2025 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Though I am not going to rewatch the first season for comparison, because life is short, my impression is that the new season has more of an emphasis on interpersonal relationships (good and bad) and team dynamics. Jan 4, 2025 Full Review Emiliano Basile EscribiendoCine Although there are no major surprises, [Squid Game Season 2] achieves a worthy continuation on par with its predecessor, establishing itself as a story that is as entertaining as it is socially disturbing. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Jan 13, 2025 Full Review ?lvaro Onieva Fotogramas …it's exciting to see Squid Game back in action,…but it still doesn't avoid falling into the repetition of its formula. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Jan 8, 2025 Full Review Sarah Jessica Rintjema Exclaim! Squid Game has cannibalized its original messaging and overstayed its welcome. Chris K It's still on point. Episode 1 was intense af. Espisode 2 was a bit of a drag but you'll see why they had to move along in that direction. I'm getting hints of who is who but it'll be very interesting to see how it unfolds. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Kush M Somewhat of a weak plotline of overthrowing a whole crime organisation with just a few folks. Like in what world was that ever going to be successful? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Jiro S Season 2 lacks the intrigue and engagement that made the first season enjoyable. The games fail to stand out, especially when compared to the originality of Alice in Borderland. Despite my efforts to push through, the series struggled to hold my attention and fell short of the bar set by Season 1. Unfortunately, I had to drop it midway—it just didn’t deliver the same impact. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Bekarys G Will waiting for 3 season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Beni S 7 épisodes seulement? je ne suis pas rassasié ? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely love Squid Game. Second seasons usually are filler seasons for another season or a general continuation that isn't as good as season 1 but I cannot say the same for Squid Game season 2. The second season is just as brilliant as the first. The comedic relief really made the show worth its while. Can't wait for Season 3!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Read all reviews
